Title: Countryside Market Scene

Date: July, 2014

Material: Charcoal and ink on cardboard

Size: 77x56cm

Description:

This black and white drawing was inspired by a documentary on the current issue of the rural areas in Korea becoming foreign due to increased marriage with Southeast Asian people. The reference was used from a photograph I took in a countryside supermarket in Busan, Korea where an old Korean lady was selling fish with her two daughters-in-law from Vietnam. The background was intentionally faded away in order to highlight the details on the three main characters in the center.

Semi-Formal Prom Fashion

Since many have requested, I made a collage to show you all my prom fashion. Since my school has a distinct semi-formal style code, I decided to purchase a dress from BCBGeneration to style my prom fashion. I also added some sophisticated, but in- fashion accessories to spice up my outfit. My shoes were metallic sandal heels and clutch was a shimmery white clutch to match with my dress. I put my hair in a simple double side sweep to tie at the back with loose curls, and put my makeup in a simple, yet glamorous style with fake eyelashes and red-tinted lips.

My dress is from BCBGeneration, pearl hairband is from Vintage Hollywood, Heeled-sandals from Jimmy Choo, and clutch is from Zara.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflections

Taking a moment to evaluate yourself can become an irksome task especially if your day has been perfect so far. But can your day be any better? For a time traveler like Tim in the 2013 hit movie “About Time”, going back in time to relive a moment might not be very difficult. Unfortunately, we are not one of those kinds. Every single day counts. That is why I think about my actions every night. ‘Did I really have to sleep until noon just because it is a weekend? Maybe I could have woken up just a few hours earlier to go on a morning jog, or read a book.’ ‘What if I hadn’t just spent my break time just chatting with my friends about insignificant matters? ‘Reflecting on yourself and your day might only take a minute, but the results those reflections might produce are immense and endless.

This is a photo of the rocky shore near my apartment in Hong Kong. The water is so blue and clear that all the rocks are reflected on the water. Sometimes I wish that I could be as clear as the water, so that all my actions and feelings can be reflected with honesty.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

Life can get very tiring… It is therefore very easy to pass by miniscule beauties of life. No matter how busy and frustrating your day is, I am sure there is always something to make you smile about if you tried. How about taking a break from the reality and looking closely into objects that you hadn’t even noticed before? The amount of beauty and bliss inside unnoticeable objects will surely surprise you. Just like this small, but beautifully bloomed Ranunculus blossom.

Valentino Haute Couture 2014 S/S Review

Since it’s spring break, I have decided to post another S/S collection review for you to compensate for my future possible absence of posts due to piling exams and SATs :).

This post is going to be about my love and admiration for my fa—vorite brand of all times-Valentino. Valentino’s timeless designs of elegance and exquisite style have always captured my attention that I dream of working for Valentino in the future once I enter the fashion industry. I even plan on learning French during my college years just to be prepared to study and work in France!

Anyhow, since you have all patiently waited for my rant about Valentino to be over, I am finally going to move onto the review on the haute couture collection. Their collections have all been amazing, but the Haute Couture collections amazes me the most. This time, Valentino claims to have incorporated opera scenes into their collection, by using earthly hues and even unexpected African scenes. After watching the full show, I felt as if I had been taken on a cultural journey around the world, because every single garment seemed to have been inspired from distinct cultures.

Here are my favorite designs:

Exquisite opera scenes

The design that amazed me instantly was the second look they presented. It was sticking to the original Valentino style with the vine detailing on the bodice, but by the addition of the embroidery of Adam and Eve, I thought the look was very eye-opening  and beautiful. The color coordination was also added a sophisticated highlight.

A design that cannot be exempt from mentioning is the first opening look of the show. It was not my favorite, but still was enlightening enough to catch my eyes. It instantly set the mood and conveyed the main theme of the show-opera, with intricately embroidered musical notes on the sheer fabric.

Katy Perry even chose the dress to wear for the Grammy’s. She definitely wore it well with her own kind of finesse.

Butterfly Domination

WOW-I really enjoyed this butterfly cape due to its considerate color combination and style. Just by imagining the amount of work put into hand-crafting all of those butterflies with feathers, I could easily sympathize with the term-“haute couture”. It really deserves my applause.

African Heritage

Valentino added an unexpected twist to the show by presenting designs with African ethnic animals and colors. I personally think it did not work that well with the entire show as a whole, but definitely was surprised by how much it matched with the elegant style Valentino always attempts to create. I really enjoyed the idea of adding the pattern to the man-ish coat to complete the look.

This final look I would like to mention embarked me on a journey to Egypt.(?) The intricate bead details surely would have looked better in person. However, the beauty was executed even through my computer screen. The slits in the front added a special flair to the dress overall by making it interesting and giving it balance.

2014 S/S RTW Trend Report

Hello lovelies! I apologize for not posting for suchhhhh a long time..Junior year can be tough in high school, so I hadn’t had time to express my passsion for fashion recently. From now on, I promise to post more often!! ❤ To compensate for my absence, this going to be a long and interesting post!! So here are some trends I have noticed from viewing some of my favorite brands’ Ready to Wear collections! Enjoy~ Tribal domination

Valentino did not disappoint me again this time by deviating from its usual revelation-tribal prints! It seems amazing how the tribal prints still seem to adhere to the usual Valentino image of femininity despite of being very bold and distinguished. The statement jewelry pieces and hairbands also captured my attention. Fashion is ART article-2440001-186D861000000578-188_634x960 Chanel captivated me instantly with their presentation of incorporating art into fashion. The extremely diverse color coordination does not distract from the design, but adds so much to it (Especially as Cara is wearing it :)). It reminds me of color palettes artists use to paint. alexander-mcqueen-rtw-ss2014-runway-04_164554610954 The art concept seems to be dominant in many other designers’ collections in different ways. Alexander Mcqueen also presented a strong collection with even further statement usage of color to create an amazing artistic collection. Bohemian skirts 2013-09-11-12-30-32-proenza-schouler-rtw-ss14-0362 Even though not a big fan of Proenza Schouler’s collections usually, they definitely did not disappoint me this time with this interesting presentation of bohemian pleated skirts. The neutral colors used with metallic tones really seem sophisticated and fashionable. 3-D Floral prints Dolce-_-Gabbana-RTW-SS14-1004-1379856098-thumb Being that it is a spring/summer collection trend report, the floral time of year seems to have come back. Dolce & Gabbana presented their collection with a 3-dimensional revelation of floral prints and rococo style belts. prettykatrantzou-rs14-1409_GA Other brands also revealed the time of spring with rather more geometric shape of fabric. Mary Katrantzou’s collection did not bore us with highlighting the 3-D floral prints with even more dramatic garment shapes. My Trend Adaptations Screen Shot 2014-03-13 at 7.04.35 PM I easily created the floral look trying to stick to the style  that Dolce and Gabbana presented. The floral neck-high dress is from Topshop. I styled using gold and white tones: The statement belt is from Nasty Gal, the gold pearl tree branch earrings are from Oscar de la Renta, the gold sandals are from Jimmy Choo and the handbag is from Chloe. Screen Shot 2014-03-13 at 7.04.10 PM The Tribal look consists of a feminine tribal dress similar to that of Valentino’s from Asos. I styled it with tan leather studded head band from Johnny Loves Rosie, fringe crossbody bag  from Tilly’s and gladiator sandals from Schutz. Screen Shot 2014-03-13 at 7.04.29 PM   My fashion is art look consists of a color palette skirt that looks very similar to that of Chanel’s from pixie market and a lace crop top from Bebe. It is styled with a metallic chain bag from Lanvin, a pearl mesh necklace from Fallon, and white pumps from Christian Louboutin.

I created my bohemian look sticking to the neutral tone that Proenza Schouler presented. The pleated maxi skirt is from Dorothy Perkins, and the navy blue croptop is from Topshop. I styled it with a statement woven necklace from OlgaJeanne, black sporty wedges from Pedro Garcia, and a silver metallic satchel from the Leather Satchel Company.

In and Out

Fascinated by the full moon that bloomed about a week ago in Hong Kong, I used my Canon G10 to capture the delightful moment. This was taken just outside of my house on my balcony, and with a gentle breeze of wind whirling through my hair, it created a very mystical and special experience for me which made me feel like a fictional character in a fantasy book. I could just feel the grace of the shiny moon pouring down on me which is why I wanted to share a bit of the moment with you guys.

Autumn Transition Lookbook

So summer is almost coming to an end since it is September and I am so excited to get ready for changing my wardrobe arrangement! I was so surprised to find new fall items that I have never worn before or forget that I had. From this discovery, I had a lot of fun mix and matching summer and fall pieces together to achieve a transition look and made my very first lookbook! All of my looks are matched with summer skirts and fall/winter jackets or cardigans. Enjoy!

Outfit #1

Overall:

This is the most sophisticated look that I have created for this lookbook. With it’s mixture of a formal jacket and a casual skirt, this look is perfect for a dinner night out with friends and family. The cream dress with ruffled bottom is from See by Chloe, dark green blazer is from Zara TRF, mint belt is also from Zara and the long rose gold chain necklace is from Juicy Couture.

Outfit #2

Overall:

This is surely my favorite look, I think it would be an ultimate look for a girls’ shopping spree or just for a school day whenever you feel like dressing up. The silky green shirt is from Forever 21, light brown skirt is from a vintage store in Korea, lightly washed jean jacket is from Zara TRF and flowery tasseled scarf is from a street shop in Hong Kong.

Outfit #3

Overall:

This one is truly inspired from SNSD style ‘Tell me your wish’ with its cute and lovely style. The whole pastel toned mix would brighten up your face which makes it perfect for a date. The green striped half cardigan is from Jessica (Hong Kong brand), flowery crochet lace blouse and the beige ruffled skirt are all from Zara.

Outfit #4

Overall:

This profoundly bohemian look is all focused at the point of layering. It has the characteristics of both relaxed and dressy part to it which I really like. Something like this would totally spice up a casual event any time, anywhere. The lace dress is from Zara TRF, jean tied-up blouse is from Forever 21 and the tribal tasseled cardigan is from Maple (Hong Kong brand).

Outfit #5

Overall:

I’ve noticed that I have a lot of green clothing, but that’s fine because green is awesome! Anyways, last but not least, this another green outfit is inspired from a preppy style from brands such as Abercrombie and Brooks Brothers. The dark navy knit cardigan is from Hollister, and both the green checkered shirt and flowery skirt are from Zara TRF.

London Olympics: Rhythm Gymnastic Inspiration

I know that it has been a few weeks after the big olympic games, but I wanted to share with you a few outfits inspired from the Rhythmn Gymnastic Champion, Evgeniya Kanaeva. Just as much as she performed, her suits were stunning, with her own distinctive style applied to it. The main motives are crystals surrounding all over with pastel tones. So I have created a few outfits out of this inspiration:

Outfit #1

This is my favorite suit of Kanaeva, with a beautiful gradation of pastel green and pink with crystals carefully surrounding her body.

This is the my interpretation of the outfit:

The adorable mint green shirt is from Sheinside.com $33, the pale pink high-low skirt is from Club L $40, Green crystal necklace is from J. Crew $275, Ruffle sandals from Loeffler Randall Rowena $207 and Balenciaga Giant 21 bag $2045.

Outfit #2

This is another beautiful, but a different style suit compared to the first one, it is more accentuated and bold, but it also suits Kanaeva a lot.

This is my version of the outfit:

The blue peplum top is from Zara $59.9, Stella McCartney tapered white pants $439, antique crystal necklace from Vala $420, Philippe Audibert cuffs $512, Nine West silver pumps $89 and Lanvin Bag $2117.
