Since it’s spring break, I have decided to post another S/S collection review for you to compensate for my future possible absence of posts due to piling exams and SATs :).
This post is going to be about my love and admiration for my fa—vorite brand of all times-Valentino. Valentino’s timeless designs of elegance and exquisite style have always captured my attention that I dream of working for Valentino in the future once I enter the fashion industry. I even plan on learning French during my college years just to be prepared to study and work in France!
Anyhow, since you have all patiently waited for my rant about Valentino to be over, I am finally going to move onto the review on the haute couture collection. Their collections have all been amazing, but the Haute Couture collections amazes me the most. This time, Valentino claims to have incorporated opera scenes into their collection, by using earthly hues and even unexpected African scenes. After watching the full show, I felt as if I had been taken on a cultural journey around the world, because every single garment seemed to have been inspired from distinct cultures.
Here are my favorite designs:
Exquisite opera scenes
The design that amazed me instantly was the second look they presented. It was sticking to the original Valentino style with the vine detailing on the bodice, but by the addition of the embroidery of Adam and Eve, I thought the look was very eye-opening and beautiful. The color coordination was also added a sophisticated highlight.
A design that cannot be exempt from mentioning is the first opening look of the show. It was not my favorite, but still was enlightening enough to catch my eyes. It instantly set the mood and conveyed the main theme of the show-opera, with intricately embroidered musical notes on the sheer fabric.
Katy Perry even chose the dress to wear for the Grammy’s. She definitely wore it well with her own kind of finesse.
Butterfly Domination
WOW-I really enjoyed this butterfly cape due to its considerate color combination and style. Just by imagining the amount of work put into hand-crafting all of those butterflies with feathers, I could easily sympathize with the term-“haute couture”. It really deserves my applause.
African Heritage
Valentino added an unexpected twist to the show by presenting designs with African ethnic animals and colors. I personally think it did not work that well with the entire show as a whole, but definitely was surprised by how much it matched with the elegant style Valentino always attempts to create. I really enjoyed the idea of adding the pattern to the man-ish coat to complete the look.
This final look I would like to mention embarked me on a journey to Egypt.(?) The intricate bead details surely would have looked better in person. However, the beauty was executed even through my computer screen. The slits in the front added a special flair to the dress overall by making it interesting and giving it balance.
